In a few previous posts on the home page, I mentioned a book by Matt Traverso called “Reverse Diabetes Now!” I have been reading this book for the last couple of weeks – and please let me clarify: The book does NOT take “weeks” to read – it’s a 106 pages of solid info that can be read in either one long sitting, or – as I’ve been doing, over a day or so with subsequent study, reflection, and implementation over the last few weeks.
Yes, I did say “implementation.”
After I read through about 1/2 the book, I began to get agitated. Not that the information was difficult or unclear – in fact, it is quite the opposite! This stuff is powerful and frankly, hard hitting.
It’s also not just about diabetes. It’s about our whole life. Our health in general. And what is facing us as humans if we don’t start to take some serious action about living a healthy lifestyle.
It’s very serious information, and after about 60 pages or so I had to jump up and “pace.” Oh yeah… Looking at myself good and hard in the mirror, I realized that even if I’m not “yet” diagnosed with diabetes, there is no doubt I’d be on my way before long unless I cared enough about my health and well-being to begin taking some real action.
And so I did. And have been for about 2 weeks now. I was fortunate enough to have much of the basics in the house already – for example, an excellent juicer, a smoothie maker, a VitaMix… I also have lots of greens and veggies at my disposal.
I haven’t yet incorporated EVERYTHING Matt spells out – but I think I’m probably about 50% of the way there. Here on this site, you will soon begin to see articles about the benefits of a plant based diet, healthy juices and green smoothies for diabetes and other nasties, and some of the resources that you might find helpful as you begin your own journey.
Back to the “Reverse Diabetes Now!” book…
Matt Traverso didn’t come up with all this info on his own. On the contrary! Matt has been fortunate in his life to have worked with Robert O. Young, MS, D.Sc., Ph.D., a well-known expert in the field of eating what he calls an “alkalarian” diet which he says raises the pH of certain parts of the body – including the pancreas. Matt draws heavily on Dr. Young’s knowledge, and acknowledges numerous other experts in natural and alternative health, such as Dr. T. Colin Campbell (of “The China Study” fame), Dr. Linus Pauling (remember his work about Vitamin C?), Dr. Gabriel Cousens (a highly acclaimed medical doctor who believes that our bodies can heal from numerous lifestyle diseases), Dr. Dean Ornish, Dr. Mehmet Oz, Dr. Andrew Weil, Dr. Julian Whitaker, Dr. Bruce West, and many others. I only named the ones I was personally familiar with!
Anyway, whether you believe in the value of raising parts of your body’s pH or not, I will tell you this: After 2 weeks of consuming primarily the foods that are recommended in the book, I have an energy and focus I haven’t had in a LONG time. Also… and I doubt coincidentally, I’ve dropped about 5 pounds and over an inch around my belly already. And this, mind you, is only going about 1/2 way.
Here’s the way I see things as I’ve read through Matt’s book: There are probably 2 types of folks in the world when it comes to preventing, treating, and healing from illnesses.
The First Type Of Person In My Example
The first type are probably folks like my dad who blindly take every medication that their doctors will prescribe because they don’t believe they can be healed in any other way. But, the problem is, they WON’T be healed, because, according to the conventional doctors my dad sees, they don’t believe that diabetes is reversable. Even the esteemed Mayo Clinic states that Type 2 Diabetes is “a chronic condition.” They further state that “there’s no cure for type 2 diabetes, but you can manage – or even prevent – the condition.” (Source: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/type-2-diabetes/DS00585)
Well, at least they mention that it’s possible to prevent it, so there’s hope! But anyway, it’s a free country, so people are free to make their choices.
The Second Type Of Person In My Example
Now, the other type of person that I can think of when it comes to preventing, treating, and healing are people more like me. I personally DO believe in the body’s capacity to heal. And, evidently so do a whole lot of other doctors and alternative thinkers (I actually consider these guys FORWARD and progressive thinkers) like some of the ones I mentioned. For example, Dr. Gabriel Cousens, who is a current, licensed medical doctor – probably trained just like your typical family physician – wrote a book boldly called “There Is A Cure For Diabetes.”
Dr. Cousens has your “ordinary” medical degree (1969, Columbia Medical School), and is also a psychiatrist (he finished his residency in 1973). He is a whole lot of things – his biography is absolutely lbeautiful! (you can learn about him at his site www.gabrielcousens.com) – and he has been helping people heal naturally from diabetes for at least 35 years. And, by the way, you can attend his programs yourself. I would highly recommend it – he’s just amazing! But, in the event you don’t have $11,000 hanging around, why not at least buy a couple of books on this topic?
Although I don’t have a copy of Dr. Cousens’ book “There Is A Cure For Diabetes” it is readily available on Amazon, and I’m pleased to offer it to you here: Buy Dr. Cousens’ “There Is A Cure For Diabetes” Here.
Now, back to Matt Traverso’s book, “Reverse Diabetes Now!“: When you order Matt’s book, it’s an instant downloadable – and printable – PDF file, so you will have it within minutes of ordering it. In his book, you will first learn a lot about the culture we live in, and why conventional medicine continues to perpetuate the idea that a lot of our current diseases are not curable or reversable.
You’ll also learn a little bit about your cells – those building blocks that we need to keep healthy if WE are to remain healthy – or if we are to REGAIN our health.
The book isn’t just about diabetes. You’ll discover that there are so many of our modern day illnesses that are being traced to our lifestyle choices. If you have never heard of this topic before, you’ll be introduced to the idea of acid versus alkaline, and pH balance, and the importance of a plant-based diet.
Matt offers suggestions on a number of changes that you can begin making, starting immediately. He quotes directly from an audio interview with Dr. Young, sharing Dr. Young’s theories and recommendations. And, yes, Dr. Young DOES encourage you to work with your doctor on incorporating these changes in your life so that your progress can be monitored.
I have to say that I am impressed. I’m impressed at how I feel after just shy of 2 weeks adopting some of these recommendations (and yes, I will be incorporating more as time goes on). I can only say that I like the book. I love the recommendations, and this stuff just makes sense to me.
I just wish I could get my dad to read it.
